Why IgG matters more than the weight of colostrum
Written by WIGNA EditorialUpdated 1 min read

In short
Colostrum products can be compared by their immunoglobulin G (IgG) content. How much IgG a product holds varies widely, so check the IgG amount before the colostrum weight. Each WIGNA Colostrum 100 IgG tablet contains 400mg bovine colostrum with 100mg of immunoglobulins.
- Colostrum is the first milk produced in the days after calving
- IgG makes up 85–95% of the immunoglobulins in colostrum
- IgG peaks at the first milking and drops quickly after that
- WIGNA Colostrum 100 IgG: 400mg colostrum, 100mg immunoglobulins (≥25%) per tablet
What is colostrum?
It is the first milk a cow produces in the days after giving birth — thicker than regular milk and carrying a range of proteins. Among them are immunoglobulins, above all IgG, which make up an estimated 85–95% of the immunoglobulins in colostrum.
Why look at IgG, not just colostrum weight?
IgG falls fast. Research shows first-milking colostrum holds roughly 50mg of IgG per mL; by the second milking that halves, and by the third it is about a fifth.
| Milking | IgG per mL (approx.) |
|---|---|
| First | ~50mg |
| Second | ~25mg |
| Third | ~10mg |
So two products both called "colostrum" can differ widely. When comparing, check the IgG amount before the powder weight.

FAQ
Are 400mg colostrum and 100mg immunoglobulins different things?
Yes. 400mg is the weight of the colostrum powder; 100mg is the immunoglobulins inside it, at least 25% of the powder and mostly IgG.
Can children take it?
Suitable for adults and children. Adults and children 12 and over: 1–2 tablets daily; younger children as directed by a healthcare professional. Not for infants under 12 months except on professional advice.
What if I am allergic to milk?
Colostrum comes from cow's milk. If you are allergic to milk protein, talk to a health professional first.
